Tomorrow & Today

May 29-31, 2026

JOANNA CORTEZ

Opening Reception: FRIDAY, May 29th from 6-8

Open Hours:
Friday May 29th 4-8 PM
Saturday May 30th noon-4 PM
Sunday May 31st noon-4 PM

Tomorrow & Today is a collection of enamel, fabric, and printed relief work that engages with Palestinian tatreez (embroidery) patterns as a way to record the ongoing efforts to see a free Palestine.

Joanna Cortez trained in printmaking, metalwork and ceramics. In her practice, she draws imagery from plants, patterns and motifs found in the American Southwest, Oaxaca, Jordan and Palestine. Her work attempts to be one more contemporary voice among many, unweaving narratives relegating her cultures to ancient times, propaganda, myth or as vanished. Her practice is in part record keeping, but she hopes it remains a vehicle for storytelling and continued conversations about heritage and our shared humanity.

Infinite Fetch

January 25 - March 14

Opening Reception: Sunday, Jan. 25, 2-4PM

Closing Reception: Saturday, Mar. 7, 4-6pm

Open gallery hours 11-2 on Saturdays during exhibition run

Infinite Fetch is an idealized oceanographic term describing how the circumpolar current, the strongest current on earth, is so powerful due to its lack of impediments. There are no land masses to stop its energy; the winds are allowed to blow, infinitely. This, in combination with the spiraling effect of currents which push the deep water up from the bottom of the ocean, makes this region of the Southern Hemisphere a unique window into the deep ocean.

The Infinite Fetch exhibition features artwork which transforms the research of participants on the NBP24-10, a research cruise which travelled through the Southern Ocean and parts of Antarctica in Fall 2024, and participants of the
Vis-a-thon 2025 program at the Rhode Island School of Design. This art was made collaboratively by scientists, artists, designers, technicians, and researchers.

▫️What layers of memory remain inscribed in place?
▫️Where does locality begin to reform itself?
▫️Who speaks through the fault lines?

The exhibition begins at the site of rupture—where traces accumulate, identities overlap, and meanings slip through fractured ground. Here, locality is not fixed geography but layered terrain: eroded, displaced, and recomposed.

Rather than restoring place as origin, the participating artists engage in acts of recomposition—through sensation, memory, language, and material. In their work, rupture no longer signals collapse but becomes a generative frontier.
