Open Call for Studio Members!

Make Do is opening applications for 1-2 new studio members. Studio members at Make Do have access to an individual studio bay, in addition to our shared spaces (shared shops for metalwork, printmaking, and woodworking, individual studio bays, and a public-facing gallery). We are hoping to have the space available between October 1 and November 1, 2026. Please note that we cannot guarantee an early October move-in ready date at this time.

The soon-to-be available studio bay is approximately 470 sq feet. To rent the full bay, it is $450. Renting half the bay and sharing it with another artist is $225. We are accepting applications for those who want the full bay, or half bay!

The link to apply is here. Applications are due September 5, 2026.

We welcome artists, craftspeople, tradespeople, etc of all backgrounds and mediums to apply. Questions? Email hello@makedostudios.org

Who Can Apply:
Artists, craftspeople, tradespeople of all backgrounds and mediums are welcome to apply.

Check out our Membership Agreement (we all sign this!) to see what the expectations are for our members and space use.

Based on the space we have and the tasks we take on, here is more information about who we think would benefit the most from being a part of Make Do:

We find that artists who engage in industrial arts, would use a wood/print/metal shop, need a big space to get a little dirty, or want a longer term work space that can handle being dusty are generally a good fit. Our members are printmakers, textile/fiber folks, papermakers, sculptors, welders, boat repair-ers, metal casters…the list goes on! Please note: we do not have ceramics infrastructure/do not have a sink set up for clay.

We are an artist run community studio: we meet monthly, work on committees, and have regular shared work days. Having the time (most of the time) to join a committee, communicate regularly via email, and attend monthly meetings is really important.

Our studio rental rates are below market price. We highly encourage those who would benefit from the lower cost rent to apply.

Application process:
After receiving applications, all current Make Do studio members use a rank choice voting form to select the applicants who they think will benefit the most from this particular studio space.

We will then meet with our top candidate(s) in person, to show you around the space, and get to know us more.

After the meetings, we do a final vote to elect our new studio members!

Make Do has 10, 400 square feet of studio space that is used collaboratively by 15 to 20 bay members and key members. We have shared shops for metalwork, printmaking, and woodworking, individual studio bays, and a public-facing gallery.

When a studio bay opens up, Make Do Studios will send out a specific call for bay member applications through our monthly mailing list. Sign up for the mailing list here.

We accept key members in our metal shop and print shop. If you are interested in learning more about key membership, please email: hello@makedostudios.org‍ ‍

If you are interested in seeing more of how the space works or helping out, we have occasional workdays & we always can use help! Send us an email if you’re interested in volunteering in our space or have equipment or resources that you’d like to donate.

Our gallery has frequent openings, and we host monthly presentations called ArtSpeaks. Please join our mailing list to get announcements about coming to our events!
